  •        West Prong Greenway Extension Work Scheduled to Begin

West Prong of the Little Pigeon River

              Tuesday, September 3, 2019

Construction on the planned extension of the West Prong Greenway is scheduled to begin on Tuesday, September 3. The $250,000.00 project includes a retaining wall, observation areas, landscaping, lighting and paving. A TDEC grant has been received for $200,000.00 towards the project.

Although the extension only measures approximately seven-hundred feet in length, it poses a challenge due to soil conditions and placement of the retaining wall.

When completed, the extension will connect the existing West Prong Greenway on the west side of the river with the Parkway. The project is expected to be completed by March 1, 2020, weather and other conditions permitting.

The long weekend is typically celebrated through picnics, pool parties, and barbecues, as families and friends enjoy the last few days of summer before fall and winter approach. Sadly, the Labor Day holiday is also one of the deadliest, with drunk drivers endangering themselves and others on America’s roadways.
