Outdoor Burning Ban in Sevierville Rescinded; Permits May Still Be Required

Posted 11-29-23.

Improved weather conditions and recent rain has allowed Sevierville to rescind the ban on outdoor burning. The ban had been in effect since before Thanksgiving due to a National Weather Service Very High Fire Danger Warning, high winds, low humidity, and drought conditions.

In the City of Sevierville, permits are not required for recreational, warming, and cooking fires when conducted in manufactured fire pits or fire pits made of steel or masonry.

Permits are ALWAYS required in the City of Sevierville for open burning (which is any burning not in an appropriate fire pit-see attached picture). Permits are issued for the day of burning after an application made at www.governmentonline.org has been received, and a site inspection has been conducted. Permit requests may be denied due to weather conditions or other factors.

Open burning is only allowed for natural vegetation and permits are only issued to the owner of the property or their representative. All forest products being burned must be from the property (no hauling brush from other locations). Permits for brush piles less than 8x8 are free to residences of the City of Sevierville, brush piles greater than 8x8 usually associated with clearing of property are $50.00 per day.

For additional information on fire pits, open burning and permits in the City of Sevierville, please contact Fire Marshal JC Green at 865-868-1709 or This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..
