What is a Greenway?
A Greenway is a corridor of undeveloped land, along a river or between urban centers that is reserved for recreational use or environmental preservation. Greenways connect people to the places they live, work and play! There are many benefits of trails and greenways: they make our communities more livable; improve the economy through tourism and civic improvement; preserve open space; and provide a place for physical activity that will improve fitness and mental health.

The City Park trail starts at the Family Aquatics Pool and loops around the Baseball fields and Tennis Courts. Sevierville City Park is a nice quiet place to run. The park’s 0.5 mile walking/running trail is connected to the Memorial River Trail Greenway which travels under the main parkway and continues along the river adding an additional 2 miles. There are no roads to cross or traffic to worry about which makes this a nice run along the Little Pigeon River. The park facilities also include softball fields, little league baseball, eight tennis courts (four lighted), concessions, restrooms, picnic areas and shelters along the river, a spectacular self-contained playground and an outdoor pool at the Family Aquatic Center.
The newly name Middle Creek Greenway includes the Greenway Loop around the Municipal Complex as well as the planned connection across Middle Creek to the Boys and Girls Club. When you leave the Municipal Complex you will cross Railroad Street continuing behind the Middle School and Trula Lawson Center; crossing East Gate Road where Greenway crosses Middle Creek in front of the New Salem Baptist Church.
The Greenway then continues parallel to the New Salem Baptist Church remaining parallel to Middle Creek ending at Burchfiel Wayside on Veterans Boulevard. The Greenway then turns into Veterans Boulevard Greenway which will allow you to either go back toward Dolly Parton Parkway to the North or towards Pigeon Forge to the South where the Veterans Boulevard Greenway ends at Dollywood which approximately five miles from Burchfiel Wayside.
The Municipal Complex is the Greenway that loops around the Community Center, Police Station and City Hall. Starting at the City of Sevierville Sign (pictured below) turn left and goes towards Railroad Street. Turn left again between the King Library and Police Station following the trail around as you pass by the Pigeon River and the beautifully landscaped trail until you are back to the sign. This loop is 0.6 miles. *In 2017 this greenway will be extended to cross Middle Creek via a pedestrian bridge. This connection will terminate at two points; The Boy’s and Girls Club and on the corner of Dolly Parton Parkway and Ford Street.
Located in Kodak off West Dumplin Valley Road, this park offers a nice lighted walking/running trail that is 0.3 miles around.
The Veteran’s Boulevard Greenway is a 10’ paved greenway that starts in Sevierville at the KFC restaurant and goes to Pigeon Forge at Dollywood. The entire distance one way is 6 miles.
* Additional Connections to Veterans Boulevard Greenway include the following:
Some mile markers along Veteran’s
The West Prong Greenway is a riverside park featuring a walking/running trail along the water’s edge. The beautifully landscaped greenway adjoins the Paine Memorial Park with picnic tables and a gazebo. Benches line the walking/running trail for enjoyment of the scenery along the river, which includes numerous migratory birds and other waterfowl. The greenway passes the McMahan Burial Mound in Sevierville before continuing on a boardwalk to the Great Smoky Mountains Parkway Bridge over the Little Pigeon River in Sevierville. At the bridge, the greenway continues to Sevierville City Park through a forested area and across a small covered bridge. * In 2017 this greenway will be extended on the west side of the river thus creating a loop between Gatlinburg Hwy and Chapman Hwy bridges.
