The City of Sevierville Public Works Department will hold its annual Equipment Roadeo on Tuesday, May 20, 2025, in observance of National Public Works Week, recognized nationwide by the American Public Works Association (APWA).
This year’s National Public Works Week theme, “People, Purpose, Presence,” celebrates the vital role that public works professionals play in serving communities with dedication, skill, and visibility.
Where: 310 Robert Henderson Road, Sevierville, TN
When: 10:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 20, 2025
As part of the Roadeo event, an official proclamation will be presented declaring May 18-24 as Public Works Week in the City of Sevierville.
The Equipment Roadeo is a professional development and training event designed to promote safety, skill-building, and interdepartmental fellowship among Public Works Department personnel. Employees will participate in a series of guided equipment challenges using a backhoe excavator, skid steer loader, knuckleboom truck, and side-load garbage truck.
Following APWA guidelines, the event serves not only as a friendly, team building competition, but also as a practical opportunity for staff to expand their knowledge and experience on equipment they may not operate regularly. This cross-training enhances emergency response readiness and operational flexibility across the department.
“Public Works professionals are the backbone of our City’s infrastructure and services,” said Doug Tarwater, Public Works Director. “This event highlights the skills and dedication of our team while ensuring we continue to deliver reliable, efficient service to the citizens of Sevierville.”
The event reinforces the department’s commitment to public service and workforce development, so that first class services can be provided to the citizens of Sevierville.
