Wastewater Treatment Plant Groundbreaking Scheduled

Posted 10-24-22.

The City of Sevierville Water and Sewer Department has scheduled a groundbreaking ceremony for the new City wastewater treatment plant at McCroskey Island (2295 McCroskey Island Road). The event will take place at 2:00 p.m. Monday, November 7.

The project has been in discussions and planning for over ten years. The expansion will cost just over $80 million dollars to complete. The estimated operational starting date is early 2025. The plant will be expanded from 4 million gallons per day (MGD) to 8 MGD.

Sevierville has experienced significant growth in the past ten years and the water and sewer needs in the near future are expected to continue increasing. The wastewater treatment plant has been operating at over 100% capacity for five years, and recently over 150% of capacity. By expanding the plant from 4 MGD to 8 MGD, with much of the equipment, piping, and processes built for the next expansion to 12 MGD, Sevierville will be prepared to meet future wastewater treatment needs.
