Sevierville’s Inclusive Playground Phase III Completed, Playground Reopens

Posted 02-07-22.

The City of Sevierville announces the completion of Phase III and the reopening of the Mt. Ton of Fun Inclusive Playground today, Monday, February 7, 2022. The inclusive playground is located at Sevierville City Park, 1005 Park Road. The Phase III development includes new swings, a slide, and a shade structure for picnicking and social events adjacent to the playground.

The Mt. Ton of Fun Inclusive Playground was the dream of Project Sevier, group of determined individuals led by Lisa Bremer and joined by April Rayfield, Courtney Stansbury, Jeremy Irick, Judy Phillips, Stephanie Whaley, Sarah Cheek, Tammy Johnson, and little ambassador Emma McPeters. Project Sevier formed a 501-C3 non-profit organization and raised funds from the private sector and worked with the City to replace the aging Mt. Ton of Fun Playground with a new inclusive playground. Completed in 2017, Phases I and II included a safe playground surface and play area for everyone, regardless of any physical limitations.

“After working with Project Sevier to complete the first two phases, the City funded the Phase III development to provide even more play opportunities for our children,” said Bob Parker, Director of Parks and Recreation. “I would like to once again thank the members of Project Sevier for their vision and determination that ultimately resulted in a wonderful playground for everyone.” (Please note: the new shade structure is scheduled to be completed by March 1, 2022.)
