The Sevierville Police Department is honored to announce the promotion of Captain Sam Hinson to deputy chief. As deputy chief, Major Hinson will be second in command of the Police Department and will oversee the day to day operations of both the Operations and Support Bureaus.

Major Hinson has over 26 years of law enforcement experience and has been a supervisor in several units and divisions since 2004. He commanded both the Criminal Investigations Division and SWAT before being promoted to Captain. As Captain, he took command of the Operations Bureau where he commanded Patrol, Criminal Investigations, SWAT, and the Crash Reconstruction team.

Major Hinson has a Bachelors Degree in Criminal Justice from Austin Peay State University and is a graduate of the FBI National Academy session 273. He is currently attending Leadership Sevier.

“Major Hinson’s experience, education, and professional relationships made him the best choice for promotion to deputy chief,” said SPD Chief Joseph Manning. “Supervision is vital to the success of any organization, and as Sevierville continues to grow, it is important that our police operations likewise continue to move forward. We are confident that having Major Hinson as deputy chief will be a tremendous asset as we meet the challenges of policing in the years ahead.”
