Apartment Armed Robbery Suspect Identified; Police Request Assistance Locating Suspect

Sevierville Police Department (SPD) detectives have identified and charged a Sevierville man in connection with the reported apartment armed robbery at the Windy Creek Apartments that occurred yesterday, April 22, 2015. (See media release dated 4-22-15 for more information.)

Arrest warrants have been obtained for 22-year old Matthew L. Shumate (photos attached) for especially aggravated kidnapping; aggravated robbery; and aggravated burglary.

Detectives are requesting help from the public to locate Mr. Shumate. Anyone with information pertaining to his whereabouts is asked to contact SPD Detective Lt. Sam Hinson at 865-868-1751 or your local law enforcement agency. NOTE: Mr. Shumate is considered armed and dangerous; citizens are advised not to contact him in any manner.

All persons are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
