Cram a Cruiser Event Donations Given to School System

Posted 07-30-19.

The Sevierville Police Department and Sevier County Sheriff’s Office partnered to collect a myriad of school supplies yesterday at the Cram a Cruiser event at Walmart in Sevierville. Everything from pencils and paper to backpacks were donated by residents and tourists at the four-hour event.

“What a tremendous show of support from our community,” said SPD Chief Joseph Manning. “Our neighbors are always ready and willing to help each other. We appreciate the Sevier County Sheriff’s Office and Sheriff Seals, Sevier County Schools and Walmart for coming together with us to make this a successful event.”

In all, almost two cruisers were filled with school supplies that will be used by Sevier County School System teachers in their classrooms this year. In addition, over $1,000.00 in monetary donations were received that will go towards the purchase of even more supplies.

“We were fortunate to have been a part of such a great event that provided necessary school supplies for our children prior to starting school”, said SCSO Chief Deputy Michael Hodges. “We were honored to partner with the Sevierville Police Department and Walmart. I would like to personally thank each and every individual that participated by donating these items for these children. We are thankful for our community partners who made this event a success and proud to be your neighbors!”

SPD and SCSO met with representatives of the School System this morning at the Sevierville Police Department and loaded the supplies into a school bus.

“We extend our thanks to the Sevierville Police Department, Sevier County Sheriff's Office, and to the community for their contributions to the Cram the Cruiser event,” said Sevier County Schools Assistant Superintendent Debra Cline. “The supplies will be distributed through the Greenbrier Teacher Depot and will have a positive impact on the lives of many students. It is important for our students to have essential school supplies as they return to school and the efforts of our law enforcement officers are much appreciated.”
