Police Department Schedules Rape Aggression Defense Keychain Class

The Sevierville Police Department has scheduled a 4-hour Rape Aggression Defense (R.A.D.) Keychain class for women on Saturday, September 26, 2015, from 8:00AM – 12:00PM, at the Sevierville Civic Center in the City of Sevierville Municipal Complex.

The class is free of charge and is open to all interested women (advance registration required).  The purpose of the class is to develop and enhance self-defense options for women using a keychain with a small device commonly called a kubaton. NOTE: to attend the keychain class, participants must have already attended the standard R.A.D. class. Participants are required to bring an empty plastic 2-gallon water jug; practice kubatons will be provided.

This R.A.D. class builds upon the basic 8-hour R.A.D. class which teaches realistic self-defense tactics and techniques for women. The R.A.D. system is a comprehensive, women-only course that begins with awareness, prevention, risk reduction and risk avoidance, while progressing on to the basics of hands-on defense training. R.A.D. is not a martial arts program.

The class will be taught by SPD Lt. David Finchum and Sgt. Rebecca Cowan, both nationally certified R.A.D. instructors. Each participant will receive a workbook/reference manual, which outlines the entire program for future reference and continuous personal growth.

Advance registration is required. To register or receive additional information, please call 865-868-1866 or email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. or David Finchum.
