The Sevierville Department of Public Works will begin a significant road project on a section of Old Knoxville Highway beginning Monday, July 8. The project will necessitate several weeks of lane closures and one week of a complete closure (see schedule below).
The affected section is between Loop Road and Old Knoxville Highway. The lane and full road closures are necessary to ensure the safety of motorists and workers. The project consists of reshaping and improving ditches, replacing storm drainpipes, installing new storm drainpipes, and performing full depth repairs on failing sections of the roadway.
Tentative project schedule:
July 8-12: Ditch and storm drain work; single lane closures 7:00 a.m.-4 p.m.;
July 15-19: Ditch and storm drain work; single lane closures 7:00 a.m.-4 p.m.;
July 22-26: Full 24-hour road closure to perform full depth roadway repairs;
July 29-August 2: Remaining ditch, storm drain, and full depth repair work as necessary; single lane closures 7:00 a.m.-4 p.m.
During single lane closure weeks, traffic will be maintained, however delays should be expected especially during heavy traffic periods. Motorists are advised to consider alternate routes. Both lanes will be reopened after 4:00 p.m. daily. Motorists should exercise caution and be prepared for changing traffic patterns, large equipment and workers.
During the full 24-hour road closure, no traffic will be permitted into the affected section until the required work is completed at the end of the week. Motorists must choose an alternate route during this period.
Weather and other conditions permitting, the project should be completed by 4:00 p.m. Friday, August 2.
