SPD Promotes “Slow Down Tennessee” To Reduce Speeding-Related Crashes
Posted 04-05-23.
The Sevierville Police Department is partnering with the Tennessee Highway Safety Office (THSO) to promote “Slow Down Tennessee.” From April 14-28, SPD will increase education, awareness, and enforcement efforts to help reduce speeding-related crashes, injuries, and fatalities statewide.
SPD officers will be concentrating on speed enforcement throughout the city during this period and utilize social media to increase awareness of the dangers of speeding. “Our goal is to help reduce speed-related crashes and make our roads as safe as possible,” said SPD Deputy Chief Sam Hinson. “This includes issuing warnings and enforcing speed-related laws, when necessary.”
Over the past two years, Sevierville has seen a 41% increase in speed-related crashes.
The State of Tennessee requires motorists to always exercise due care and maintain a safe speed while driving. Speed limits may vary depending on the county and road conditions; therefore, drivers must always pay attention and adhere to posted speed limits to ensure the safety of all roadway users.
