Fireworks Resources

Are you planning to sell fireworks this year? The State Fire Marshal's Office has a reminder about selling fireworks. Pursuant to state law, it is unlawful for any person to sell fireworks without first getting a permit as an annual retailer or seasonal retailer. Tennessee law does not exempt Tennessee fire departments from this permit requirement. As such, any fire department in the State is required to obtain a permit before selling any fireworks.
Further, seasonal retailers are allowed to sell fireworks from June 20 - July 5 and December 10 - January 2. Selling fireworks before June 20 violates state law and is a Class C misdemeanor. For information regarding applications for seasonal fireworks permits, please contact the Permits & Licensing Section of the Department of Commerce and Insurance at (615) 741-2981.
