The Short-Term Rental Operational Permit Explained
The Short-term Rental Permit system is a joint project shared by the city planning and fire department. It was created in August of 2021 with the goal of monitoring rental locations as well as ensuring that properties align with life safety requirements adopted by the city. Home safety is always important, but even more so in vacation rentals where the occupants are unfamiliar with their surroundings. Requiring a minimum level of safety in vacation rentals helps reduce the number of liability claims filed and can thus lower insurance rates for rental owners across the city.
The operational permit certifies that a property complies with the codes and ordinances adopted by the City of Sevierville and is officially licensed for operation. The application process requires specific documentation to be submitted, a fee payment, and a life-safety inspection of the property by the Fire Department. This is an annual permit that requires yearly renewal. Funds collected from the permit go to the Sevierville Fire Department to allow us to serve our community effectively and efficiently. If you have any questions please reach out to the fire department via email or phone (865)868-1585.
