Annual Arbor Day and Tree City USA Celebrations

The annual City of Sevierville Arbor Day and Tree City Celebrations are scheduled for Friday, April 23, 2021. The event will begin at 12:00 p.m. at the Municipal Campus (corner of Dolly Parton Parkway and Gary Wade Boulevard). In the event of rain, the ceremony will be held indoors at the Civic Center.

This event will celebrate the accomplishments of being named a Tree City USA for both 2019 and 2020. The ceremony will include speakers Diane Warwick from Tennessee Division of Forestry, Sevierville Mayor Robbie Fox, and an invocation from Pastor Tim Parton. There will be a reading of the names of individuals with a tree memorial or honorary tree in the past two years. Over 250 trees have been planted in support of the city’s urban forestry program.

The Sevier County Electric System will also receive a Tree Line USA Award. SCES will donate and plant a tree to memorialize those Sevier County residents that have passed away due to the COVID-19 virus.

The Tree City USA program is a national program administered by the Arbor Day Foundation that provides the framework for community forestry management for cities and towns across America. Communities achieve Tree City USA status by meeting four core standards of sound urban forestry management: maintaining a tree board or department, having a community tree ordinance, spending at least $2 per capita on urban forestry and celebrating Arbor Day. Participating communities have demonstrated a commitment to caring for and managing their public trees.
