Deputy Director of Parks and Recreation - Full-time

 

SALARY:       $69,694- $76,837

SUMMARY:

The essential function of the position within the organization is to oversee and direct the operations of the Parks and Recreation Department.  The position is responsible for staff supervision, long-range planning, developing policy and procedures, departmental functions, preparing budgets, and evaluating, documenting, and reporting on events and activities to senior management and elected or appointed officials. This position reports directly to the Parks and Recreation Director and may act in his or her absence.

This position’s primary duties are:

  • ·Assigns, directs, supervises, evaluates, and disciplines personnel, and coordinates daily work activities.
  • Coordinates operations for the department, which includes recommending and implementing hours of operation, service offerings, fee schedules, departmental procedures, determining and approving the terms of rental agreements.
  • Prepares and maintains a variety of operational records and reports which include bid specifications, financial reports, and rental agreements.
  • Recommends capital improvement projects; develops plans; and reviews capital improvement projects.
  • Recommends, plans, organizes, and administers the acquisition, disposition, maintenance, development, demolition, and management of department properties and facilities.
  • Coordinates with and serves as a liaison to the public, City departments, and/or external agencies.
  • Initiates preventive maintenance measures, and directs, monitors, and refines preventive maintenance and asset replacement programs.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Requires education, training or experience equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree in recreation administration, business management, or a closely related field. Must have at least six years of related experience. Must be able to obtain a Certified Parks and Recreational Professional License in Tennessee within 2 years of employment.
