City to Renew Enforcement of False Fire Alarm Calls

Posted August 22, 2016

When firefighters receive a fire alarm call, their response is immediate and swift. The faster firefighters can get to a fire and begin attempts to bring it under control, the less potential for loss of life, serious injuries and loss of property.

Because of the emergency nature of fire alarm calls, the response itself poses significant risk and liability. And responding to false fire alarm calls removes firefighters from service in the event of a true emergency call.

Unfortunately, the Sevierville Fire Department has been responding to a large number of false fire alarm calls and in an effort to reduce these unnecessary responses, the existing False Fire Alarm Ordinance will be strictly enforced.

Many homeowners and businesses have received letters explaining the strict ordinance enforcement policy that will be followed beginning this month. The full ordinance language is available here; choose the Government tab, select Municipal Code, then Title 20.

Fire Department staff are available to offer suggestions to residents and business owners on how to reduce recurring false fire alarm calls.

If you have any questions regarding the ordinance or would like assistance from Fire Department staff, please feel free to contact the Sevierville Fire Department at 865-453-9276.
