Traffic Crash Results in Fatality Near Mile Marker 409

City of Sevierville Police Officers and Firefighters responded to a two-vehicle traffic crash on Interstate 40 west this morning, July 13, 2015. The crash occurred just west of mile marker 409.

The crash was reported at approximately 9:40AM. According to SPD Officer Josh Bright, it appeared a 2002 Cadillac Seville STS was traveling east on Interstate 40 when it veered across the grass center median into Interstate 40 westbound traffic, colliding with a 2015 Honda CRV.

Due to the severity of the crash, SPD Crash Reconstructionists were called to the scene to conduct an investigation. According to SPD Crash Reconstructionist Preston Parrish, it appears the Cadillac struck a guardrail on eastbound I-40 just before crossing the median near mile marker 409. The crash apparently caused the death of 55-year old Michael A. Campbell of Mobile, Alabama, who was a passenger in the Honda. The driver of the Honda, 55-year old Charlene B. Campbell of Mobile, Alabama, was extricated from the vehicle and transported by Lifestar air ambulance to the University of Tennessee Medical Center (UTMC). The driver of the Cadillac, 61-year old Barry E. Myers of Bulls Gap, Tennessee, was also transported to the UTMC by Lifestar air ambulance. The conditions of the victims are not known at this time.

The crash remains under investigation. The Northview-Kodak Volunteer Fire Department and TDOT also responded.
