Police Respond to Single Vehicle Crash Fatality

Posted July 20, 2017

Sevierville Police Department officers responded to a single vehicle crash on West Main Street near Mize Lane yesterday evening, Thursday, July 19, 2017. The crash was reported at approximately 9:55PM.

According to SPD Officer Preston Parrish, it appears that a Chevrolet Silverado pick-up truck was traveling west on West Main Street when the driver lost control, crossed the center median and left the roadway on the eastbound side. The preliminary investigation indicates the vehicle was likely traveling at a high rate of speed and rolled over several times. An 18-year old passenger was ejected from the vehicle and died apparently as a result of injuries sustained in the crash. His name will be released tomorrow morning.

The driver of the vehicle, 21-year old Andrew S. Hoffman of Seymour, received what appeared at the scene to be minor injuries. A second passenger, 17-year old Elisha C. Whaley of Seymour, was ejected from the vehicle and sustained serious injuries.  Whaley and Hoffman were transported to the University of Tennessee Medical Center via Lifestar air ambulance.

Excessive speed and alcohol may be factors in the crash. SPD accident reconstructionists are continuing to investigate the crash.
