Posted July 12, 2017

Mayor Bryan C. Atchley will officially open the new Mt Ton of Fun Inclusive Playground on Monday July 17th with live music by Jimbo Whaley and Friends starting at 4pm followed by the Ribbon Cutting Ceremony at 4:30pm.

This event denotes the completion of Phase I and Phase II of this new playground which has been a dream of PROJECT SEVIER, INC. a group of local Leadership Tomorrow Class led by President Lisa Bremer. Their vision and leadership from the City of Sevierville has led to the completion of Phase I and II.

Many people and groups have contributed to the playground with major contributions coming from Vulcan Materials Company and Charles Blalock and Sons Construction. Jeff May VP/GM of Vulcan Materials-Eastern Tennessee and Doug Blalock of Charles Blalock and Sons will speak regarding their role in this project.

The Mt. Ton of Fun Inclusive Playground has SOMETHING FOR EVERYONE….it is an Inclusive, Multigenerational Playgrounds having Broach Reach to many types of individuals from all age groups. Thirty years ago the standard playground probably looked like this: a tall metal slide, maybe a teeter totter, and some wooden swings along with animal springs with monkey bars.

Today INCLUSIVE AND MULITGENERATIONAL PLAYGRONDS BOAST COMPENTS for everyone from the very young to those of older generation no matter their personal abilities.

Today one of every 1000 children between the ages of 3-21 or about 85 will have some type of disability. What makes play space Inclusive is the ability to create space that addresses the needs of these children as well as other children on in this category.

The Mt Ton of Fun Inclusive Playground has incorporated today’s BEST PRACTICES FOR INCLUSIVE PLAY….AND WE HAVE done this by selecting play equipment that addresses all five development domains which are: physical, social-emotional, sensory, and cognitive and communications        During the Ribbon Cutting information and announcements will be made about Phase III of the Playground project which will incorporate some of the more traditional aspects of a playground yet combining those features with the inclusive areas always in mind in order to have SOMETHING FOR EVERYONE…
