Counterfeit Money Alert

Posted June 9, 2017

The Sevierville Police Department is alerting citizens and business owners of a recent increase in counterfeit money use. While it is common to receive 4-5 counterfeit money reports monthly, the SPD fielded 13 reported cases in May and 7 so far in June.

The majority of the counterfeit money being passed at this time is in $10, $20 and $100 denominations. There are several methods that can be used to identify counterfeit currency. The United States Secret Service offers advice at https://www.secretservice.gov/data/KnowYourMoney.pdf.

If you suspect that you have received a counterfeit note, please contact your local law enforcement agency immediately. Anyone with information pertaining to the use of counterfeit notes in Sevierville, please contact SPD Detective Kevin Bush at 865-868-1748.
